The father of the 19-year-old maritime student and hazing victim in Dasmariñas, Cavite, has formally filed a criminal case against 14 members of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity, according to a Tuesday report.
Rovhic Manuel of DZRH TV reported that four suspects had turned themselves over to the General Trias police, while another personally surrendered to Dasmariñas authorities over the weekend.
Previously, the driver of the vehicle that brought the victim to a hospital in General Trias had also given himself up to law enforcement, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The suspects who surrendered were found to be between 18 and 22 years old. They face charges for violating the Anti-Hazing Law.
Additionally, authorities have uncovered the identities of other individuals involved in the hazing incident that led to the victim’s death.
Two of the neophytes who had undergone the initiation rites alongside the victim came forward and reported that they were hit with a paddle and punched repeatedly by fraternity members. Both reportedly sustained severe injuries, particularly on their legs.
The victim’s father appealed to the fraternity leadership to surrender the rest of the members responsible while the investigation is ongoing.
