A 53-year-old farmer was recognized after returning a bag containing ₱60,000 in cash, a cellphone, a passport, and two luxury watches to authorities in Laoang, Northern Samar.
According to police, Pobleo Narca, a resident of Barangay Oleras, immediately turned over the bag to personnel of the 2nd Northern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company and the Laoang Municipal Police Station instead of keeping it. The bag’s owner, Ms. Cristina Sharpe, was later identified after seeing a police social media post about the recovered item.
In a Facebook post highlighting the incident, Narca was cited as an example of honesty after choosing to return the valuables despite their high value.
The Laoang local government, led by Mayor Charlene L. Ongchuan, awarded Narca a Certificate of Commendable Laoanganon Values and a cash incentive. The Laoang MPS also issued a Certificate of Commendation, while police officials encouraged the public to follow Narca’s example of integrity.
