The family of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who died in Saudi Arabia due to an alleged heart attack was devastated after discovering that the body delivered to them was not their loved one.
According to a report by Noche Cacas, 39-year-old Catherine Balais Belleza died two weeks ago. Her employer had assisted in the repatriation of her remains to the Philippines.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) also assisted in bringing Belleza's body home.
The body arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. However, the family noticed that the name tag attached to the coffin was different. When they opened it, they were shocked to find the body of a different filipino man inside.
The family immediately contacted the employer, who insisted that no mistake could have occurred.
Cacas reported that Belleza's body had in fact also arrived at the airport and was retrieved by the family later on.
It turned out that the labels on the coffins of two deceased individuals who were shipped together from Saudi Arabia had been mistakenly swapped.
