Vice President Sara Duterte’s defense spokesperson, Michael Poa, on Monday dismissed as “fake news” reports of a rumored dialogue between the Vice President and President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“Fake news,” Poa told reporters during the lunch break of Duterte’s impeachment trial on August 24.

Poa also likened the report to an earlier claim that Duterte had thrown a laptop at him, which he likewise denied.

“Parang ‘yung binato ako ng laptop o kung anuman, it’s also fake news. So, fake news po 'yan,” he said.

The report surfaced amid Duterte’s ongoing impeachment trial before the Senate sitting as an impeachment court, where the prosecution has been presenting allegations involving the supposed misuse of millions of pesos in confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President.

Poa did not provide further details about the report or elaborate on whether Duterte had any plans to meet with Marcos.

On August 17, Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro neither confirmed nor denied reports of a possible private meeting between Marcos and Duterte.

“Wala po tayong makukumpirma patungkol po d’yan dahil wala naman din pong ibinababa sa atin na anumang impormasyon kung mayroon ngang ganyang kaganapan. Sa ngayon, wala tayong makukumpirma,” Castro said during a press briefing.

Castro, however, said Marcos remains open to discussions with anyone who disagrees with him, adding that such openness is not limited to the Vice President.
