On April 1, Holy Wednesday, faith came alive in the streets of Bulakan, Bulacan, as devotees and onlookers gathered to witness the powerful Live Stations of the Cross, or Malawakang Daan ng Krus.

Far from being confined to the church, the reenactment unfolded along the town’s streets, allowing the faithful to walk alongside the performers and experience Christ’s journey to Calvary in a deeply immersive way.

Led by Theatro Asuncion and the Parish Commission on Youth, the performance guided participants through each station, highlighting Jesus’ sacrifice and boundless love.

The cast featured Marc Jericho De Jesus as Jesus Christ, delivering a solemn and compelling portrayal that drew the attention and prayers of the waiting crowd. Devotees were invited to reflect, pray, and reconnect with God’s mercy at every step of the procession.

This year’s presentation added a rich cultural dimension through the creative direction of the Ministry of Action Song Interpreters Guild. The performance explored the role of babaylans—pre-colonial Filipino spiritual leaders—juxtaposing their history with the Passion of Christ. Once demonized during Spanish colonization, the babaylans were reimagined as spiritual guides, enhancing the narrative with both historical and theological depth.

By bringing the Stations of the Cross to the streets, Bulakan’s reenactment transformed a centuries-old tradition into a living, communal experience. It reminded viewers that Holy Week is not just observed—it is walked, witnessed, and felt, bridging faith, culture, and devotion in the heart of the town.
