Residents of Coron, Palawan may experience dangerously high heat today, with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasting a possible heat index of 42 degrees Celsius.
Across the country, temperatures are expected to reach extreme caution levels of 33 to 41 degrees Celsius, while the danger level begins at 42 degrees Celsius, which can pose a risk of heat-related illnesses like heat stroke.
PAGASA forecaster Ma’am Chenel Dominguez explained that the northeast monsoon (amihan) remains weak, affecting mainly extreme northern Luzon, bringing partly cloudy skies with light rains to Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.
Meanwhile, the easterlies, carrying hot and humid air from the Pacific, will bring scattered rain and thunderstorms to Dinagat Island, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Metro Manila.
Other parts of the country can expect hot and humid conditions, particularly from noon to afternoon, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms possible in the afternoon and evening.
Dominguez urged residents to take precautions amid the forecasted heat.
“Kahapon po nakapagtala po tayo ng 42 degrees Celsius dito po sa may Coron, Palawan. Inaasahan po natin buong ngayong araw forecast po natin ngayon araw 42 degrees Celsius din po ang mararanasang init po dito sa may Coron, Palawan,” she said.
Authorities recommend staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and seeking shade whenever possible to prevent heat-related illnesses.
