The Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) said on Thursday that the seven luxury cars confiscated in Marilao, Bulacan Monday night were not registered and some drivers did not even have licenses.
In an exclusive interview on Balansyado, PNP-HPG Spokesperson PLt. Nadame Malang said that a concerned citizen had given them a tip-off regarding a suspicious gathering of several high-end cars, some without plates, at 10 p.m. on Monday.
“Nagkaroon po kasi tayo ng prior tip-off from a concerned citizen na mayroon daw pong pagtitipon ng mga sasakyan po, nabanggit natin mga pitong luxury cars, na napatingin po ang ating nag-complain na may iilan pong wala pong plaka at hindi rin po nakalagay sa tamang lokasyon po ‘yung mga plaka doon sa mismong sasakyan,” Malang said.
The cars were one Ferrari, one Toyota Supra, one BMW M2 Coupe, one Toyota Land Cruiser, two Nissan GT-Rs, and one Maserati. Through validation, the PNP-HPG discovered that these were not registered.
“During our confrontation with these drivers, napag-alaman din po natin na iilan po sa kanila, walang dalang OR/CR,” the HPG spokesperson said.
He later clarified that the driver of the Maserati did not possess an OR/CR. Although the others did, their vehicles were also found to be unregistered. Moreover, these had improvised plates.
The police immediately seized the vehicles. These have been turned over to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and impounded.
When asked whether these vehicles were connected to the flood control anomalies, Malang responded that they were still waiting on the LTO’s report.
He added that among the drivers, who were friends, one was a vlogger and the rest were believed to be businessmen, with ages ranging from 20 to 40 years old. Some of the drivers, he noted, were not the actual owners of these cars. Those without licenses were issued tickets.
However, PLt. Malang assured that drivers with complete documents have nothing to fear.
Authorities are currently looking into whether these vehicles are connected to the Discaya couple.
