Malacañang announced on Monday, September 29, the appointment of former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. (Ret.) as Special Adviser and Investigator of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).
Azurin will assume his duties once personal and administrative arrangements are completed, according to the Palace statement.
The President also expressed gratitude to Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong for his service and contributions during his tenure in the commission, citing his role in safeguarding the integrity and credibility of the ICI in the government’s fight against corruption in infrastructure projects.
“His efforts in safeguarding the integrity and credibility of the Commission have been vital to the government’s campaign against corruption in infrastructure projects,” the statement read.
The administration expressed confidence that Azurin’s leadership will boost the ICI’s mandate to ensure transparency and accountability in public spending.
“General Azurin's experience and leadership will further strengthen the Commission's mandate to uphold accountability and transparency in the use of public funds,” the Palace noted.
Azurin's appointment comes after Magalong's resignation as the ICI's special adviser last week. In a statement, the Baguio City Mayor said, “This was not an easy choice, but one I believe is necessary.”
