Former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) director Jaime Santiago said he is willing to testify in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte if ordered by the Senate impeachment court.

According to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, Santiago said he would appear should a subpoena be issued, as proceedings continue into their third day at the Senate.

During Santiago’s tenure, the NBI in February 2025 recommended filing charges of inciting to sedition and grave threats against Duterte. The recommendation stemmed from alleged remarks threatening President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

However, the impeachment court has so far summoned incumbent NBI Director Melvin Matibag to testify.

On the second day of the trial, the prosecution presented its first witness, Senior Agent John Mark Calilung of the NBI.

Calilung, 31, has been with the agency since 2021 and was assigned to the Cybercrime Investigation and Assessment Center in 2024.

Calilung told the court he has two years of experience in digital forensics and has testified in court at least 30 times. He said he was responsible for gathering and preserving a copy of a Nov. 23, 2024 online press conference conducted by the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

The video, which was posted on the Facebook page of former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, allegedly contained statements by Duterte that were cited as “grave threats” against the president, the first lady and Romualdez.

Meanwhile, security remains tight outside the Senate complex in Pasay City as the impeachment trial enters its third day.

As of 7:30 a.m., only a small number of Duterte supporters were seen near the area, with some camped around the vicinity. Authorities have installed barbed wire barricades around the Senate, although both lanes of Diokno Boulevard remain open to traffic.
