Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Chairperson and retired Regional Trial Court judge Felix P. Reyes has firmly denied allegations involving him to the 'missing sabungeros' or cockfighting enthusiasts case.
“I categorically deny such wild accusations of Mr. Patidongan,” Reyes said in a statement released on Tuesday, July 8.
This came after whistleblower Julie Patidongan, also known as alias “Totoy,” revealed that a former judge was alledgedly a “money fixer” in legal complaints involving business gaming tycoon Charlie "Atong" Ang.
Patidongan also said that the ex-judge as allegedly facilitating favorable rulings for Ang.
In a statement, Reyes challenged Patidongan to identify any specific case involving Ang or the ongoing case that he allegedly fixed or settled in gaming tycoon's favor.
“If Mr. Patidongan cannot substantiate his accusation of case-fixing, I ask him to shut up,” he stated.
Reyes also authorized the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to release his travel records from October 1, 2021, the date of his retirement from the judiciary—up to the present to disprove any claim that he traveled with prosecutors or judges for alleged case-fixing activities.
The PCSO chair further hinted at a political motive behind the timing of the allegations, noting that they surfaced just one day after he filed his application for the position of Ombudsman.
“I find it perhaps, a rare coincidence that these wild accusations of Mr. Patidongan came out a day after I filed my application for the position of Ombudsman,” Reyes said.
“I am ready and willing to cooperate in any investigation by any government agency that will shed light on these baseless allegations… and spare the judiciary and the prosecution service from the undeserved tarnishing of these institutions,” he concluded his statement with a pledge of full cooperation with any official probe.
Moreover, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla earlier acknowledged that the DOJ is aware of the claims and is looking into them and under investigation.
