Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez arrived at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Saturday to undergo an independent medical examination as ordered by the Sandiganbayan Third Division.

Romualdez arrived at the UP-PGH at around 8:35 a.m. on Sept. 12 after being transferred from Cardinal Santos Medical Center, where he had been confined since Sept. 7.

The transfer was made to verify the medical findings issued by his doctors and determine whether he should remain hospitalized, in compliance with the court's directive.

His doctors cited medical conditions including Unstable Angina, Cerebrovascular Ischemic Disease, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension and Dyslipidemia

Security was tight inside the hospital. Romualdez was not seen being taken out of the ambulance as the vehicle was brought inside the area near the entrance, allowing him to enter the hospital directly.

Romualdez is facing a plunder case before the Sandiganbayan linked to the anomalous flood control issue in the Philippines.
