The remains of former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral tested positive for antidepressant drugs, according to an initial laboratory report released by the Philippine National Police–Cordillera Administrative Region (PNP-CAR).

RH Edniel Parrosa reports that based on the toxicology report, Cabral had traces of the antidepressant medication Citalopram in her system. Cabral was earlier found lifeless along a general road in Tuba, Benguet.

Authorities said the histopathological examination showed that Cabral had no terminal illness at the time of her death. Her identity was also confirmed after her fingerprints matched records during the initial investigation.

Earlier, acting PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. confirmed that investigators recovered not only a knife but also several medicines from the hotel room where Cabral had been staying.

No suicide note was found at the scene or in the hotel room. However, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the PNP have earlier stated that, based on evidence gathered so far, the case is being treated under a suicide angle as of this time.
