Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel “Manny” Bonoan will remain at Camp Crame overnight despite the Sandiganbayan’s order for his release.

PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Allen Rae Co said Bonoan’s release could not be immediately carried out as the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) still needs to verify whether the former DPWH secretary has any other pending case, outstanding warrant, or legal reason that would require him to remain in custody.

“Hindi pa po siya dahil nga titingnan pa po natin… So due diligence lang naman na matignan muna natin kasi baka mamaya marelease natin na mayroong pang malagyan o outstanding warrant or there is other reason for him to be held,” Co said.

Co explained that the Sandiganbayan office is already closed for the day, preventing authorities from immediately completing the necessary verification and processing.

As a result, Bonoan’s release is expected to be processed on Friday, September 4.

The 81-year-old former DPWH chief, who was previously detained in connection with the alleged flood control mess, remains in stable condition at the PNP General Hospital while awaiting his release.
