The legal team of former DPWH Bulacan Assistant District Engineer Brice Hernandez has filed a petition for writ of amparo before the Pasay City Regional Trial Court, citing serious threats to his life following his testimony in the flood control scandal.

Hernandez’s counsel, Atty. Ernest Levanza, asked the court to compel the Senate to submit a verified return within 72 hours in connection with his client’s detention at the Pasay City Jail.

The petition also sought Hernandez’s transfer back to a custodial facility in Camp Crame, Quezon City, as well as his inclusion in the Witness Protection Program (WPP).

According to Levanza, Hernandez has received serious threats after naming officials from the senate allegedly involved in anomalous and “ghost” flood control projects.

“The threat is serious after the revelations he has made in congress, di natin maikakaila na mayroon talagang threats. This is not speculative, there is a threat sa security ni Brice” ,” Levanza said.

The development adds another twist to the widening flood control controversy, which has already triggered Senate and House investigations, and the recent filing of cases by DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon before the Ombudsman, and heated exchanges between lawmakers and contractors accused of corruption.
