Former Ateneo Blue Eagles coach Tab Baldwin is set to appear before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday, according to NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag.
Baldwin failed to show up for a subpoena issued by the NBI-Homicide Division on Wednesday, citing that he was not in “good condition," as reported by RH Jecelle Ricafort.
“We’re very satisfied with the response ng Ateneo community because yung mga sinubpoena namin dumarating,” Matibag said.
“If not, they will send a lawyer and give us a message just like coach tab nagpasabi siya na baka sa friday.”
He added that additional personalities are still scheduled to face questioning.
“Tomorrow (Thursday) until Friday meron pa kaming mga personalities iimbestigahan,” Matibag said.
Meanwhile, several current and former members of the Ateneo Blue Eagles have already appeared before the NBI in connection with the investigation into the deaths of two players.
Players Grayson Rogers and Sultan Baruwa were among those who gave statements on Wednesday regarding the deaths of teammates 19-year-old Rene Baterbonia and 21-year-old Divine Adili, who were found dead in Dipaculao, Aurora on June 8 while allegedly attending a team boot camp.
Former Blue Eagles player Kyle Ong also appeared before investigators.
On Tuesday, five coaching staff members and one player had already responded to the NBI subpoena.
More than 20 individuals have been summoned by the bureau since the start of the inquiry, including Baldwin and former team manager Epok Quimpo.
Quimpo declined to grant media interviews after personally requesting a reschedule of his appearance before the NBI on Wednesday.
