Senate impeachment court Presiding Officer Chiz Escudero ordered the removal of certain words and statements made by defense lawyer Justin Nicol Gular during Monday’s 27th day of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial.
Escudero directed that the word “misrepresentation” be replaced with “inaccuracies” in the official record.
“Chair orders the word ‘misrepresentation’ stricken from the record and replaced with the word ‘inaccuracies,’” Escudero stated.
He also ordered Gular’s statement referring to “an attempt to condition the mind of the public” over figures presented by the prosecution to be stricken from the record.
The ruling came after Gular criticized the prosecution’s visual presentation of businesses allegedly linked to Duterte, describing the materials as “misleading, unreliable, and misrepresentative.”
The exchange highlighted the impeachment court’s scrutiny of the language used by both parties as proceedings continued on allegations involving Duterte’s business interests under Article II of the impeachment case.
