A police officer voluntarily surrendered to the Ermita Police Station after being linked to an alleged shootout incident in Macapagal Boulevard, Parañaque, on Wednesday.
The officer was identified as Police Senior Master Sergeant Ronaldo Rangel Teraña Jr., 38, who is currently assigned at PS-5 and a resident of Sampaloc, Manila, reported RH 29 Boy Gonzales.
According to a report, a photo of Teraña appeared in a “rogues gallery” on the police station’s official Facebook page, implicating him in the incident, to which Teraña responded, asking why he was among the suspects.
He later decided to turn himself in to clear his name of supposed involvement in the operation conducted by the Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG).
As ordered by Ermita Station Commander PLtCol. June Paolo Abrazado, officers headed to Teraña’s residence to escort him to the station.
Teraña arrived at the station with his wife around 1:15 a.m. on April 16 and was interviewed by Abrazado.
Teraña is currently under the station’s custody while awaiting formal turnover to the AKG for further investigation.
On Wednesday night, an armed encounter broke out between authorities and four suspected kidnappers as operatives attempted to rescue a 78-year-old Indian national who is also a Filipino citizen.
