Environmental advocates have launched a three-day protest called the Lakad-Panaghoy para sa Sangnilikha, which began on Monday and will continue until Wednesday. The demonstration coincides with ongoing opposition to the proposed Atimonan Coal Power Plant and other large-scale projects in the Quezon region.

The groups also condemned the Banahaw Wind Power Project, which they claim will affect sacred areas of Mount Banahaw, as well as other extractive operations that could harm protected zones at the mountain’s foothills.

The protesters emphasized that the continued approval of such projects increases risks to local communities, particularly in the wake of recent disasters, including Typhoon Tino and Super Typhoon Uwan that caused large-scale flooding and landslides in affected areas.

They called on the Tayabas City government to urgently address the climate crisis and block projects that may cause further harm to residents and the environment surrounding Mount Banahaw.
