Senator JV Ejercito said the Senate impeachment court could revisit Presiding Officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero’s decision allowing the withdrawal of three impeachment articles against Vice President Sara Duterte if a senator-judge files a motion for reconsideration when proceedings resume on November 9.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, October 14, Ejercito said the senator-judges could still challenge the ruling and discuss the appropriate course of action following the court’s nearly two-week break.
“Sa pagkakaalam ko, pwede pa naman sila mag-MR, mag-motion for reconsideration, pero hintayin natin,” Ejercito said.
He added that the Senate impeachment court could hold a caucus to discuss the next steps once hearings resume.
“Siguro mag-uusap-usap din naman 'yan, magkakaroon din ng caucus. Kung ano ang tamang direction, ano ang tamang hakbang na dapat gawin,” he said.
Ejercito emphasized that the court’s next move would depend on developments during the break and whether any senator-judge would formally seek reconsideration of Escudero’s ruling.
The Senate impeachment court earlier allowed the withdrawal of Articles I, III and IV of the impeachment complaint against Duterte, leaving Article II for consideration.
