Muslims across the Philippines will celebrate Eid'l Fitr on March 21, after the crescent moon signaling the start of Shawwal was not sighted, the Bangsamoro religious authority announced Thursday, March 19.
Abdulrauf Guialani, Grand Mufti of the Bangsamoro, confirmed that monitoring teams from the Bangsamoro Darul Ifta (BDI) found no verified sighting of the Shawwal moon during observations conducted on Thursday in key locations across the region.
“By the authority vested in me as Bangsamoro mufti… the crescent moon was not sighted today. Therefore, Eid’l Fitr and the first day of Shawwal will be on Saturday, March 21, 2026,” Guialani declared, marking the completion of the 30-day observance of Ramadan.
The moon-sighting activity is a significant religious practice that determines the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar.
With fasting concluded, Filipino Muslims are expected to prepare for Eid’l Fitr, traditionally celebrated with congregational prayers, acts of charity, and family gatherings.
