The education sector emerged as the biggest beneficiary of the 2026 national budget, receiving a record ₱1.35 trillion allocation, according to Senator Bam Aquino.

Aquino said the funding marks the largest budget ever granted to education in Philippine history, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening support for students nationwide.

The senator also stated that the said grant will result in greater assistance for learners across the country, citing expanded programs and services aimed at improving access to quality education.

Included in the budget is ₱67 billion for the implementation of Republic Act No. 10931, or the Free College Law, which Aquino authored. The measure ensures free tuition and other school fees in state universities and colleges.

The budget also earmarks ₱68 billion for the construction of new classrooms to address shortages, and ₱25.6 billion for the School-Based Feeding Program to help improve students’ nutrition and learning outcomes.

In addition, ₱500 million has been allocated under the Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) of the Higher Education Development Program to provide financial support for Related Learning Experience (RLE) requirements of students enrolled in Allied Health Sciences programs.

Aquino emphasized that the passage of the national budget is only the beginning, calling on the public to remain vigilant to ensure that education funds are properly and effectively implemented.
