The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), together with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr), announced the early start of the long-planned EDSA rehabilitation, originally scheduled for 2026.
In a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, the project will begin on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025, and run until January 5, 2026, covering Phase 1 from Roxas Boulevard to Orense in Makati City.
The agencies will take advantage of the Christmas break when many Metro Manila motorists are expected to be out of the city, reducing traffic along the busy thoroughfare.
Under the revised schedule, the rehabilitation is set to be completed between January and May 2026, shorter than the originally planned two-year timeline. The project will be carried out in two phases:
-
Phase 1 – Four months of road repairs along the Roxas Blvd-Orense segment during the Christmas season, conducted 24/7 from 11:00 p.m. on December 24 to 4:00 a.m. on January 5.
-
Phase 2 – The remaining sections of EDSA, scheduled from January to May 31, to be worked on daily from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
According to DPWH Sec. Vince Dizon, the new plan is designed to minimize traffic disruptions by avoiding multiple road closures. The rehabilitation will use Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) technology for faster and more durable road work.
The total cost of the project is estimated at ₱6 billion.
