The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported that easterlies will continue to affect the country on Sunday, May 3, bringing cloudy skies and scattered rains to several areas, while dangerous heat levels are expected in parts of Luzon today.
According to PAGASA, the Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, as well as Sorsogon, Masbate, Palawan, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Basilan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert for possible flash floods or landslides during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, also caused by the easterlies.
PAGASA added that no low pressure area is currently being monitored for potential tropical cyclone formation.
Despite the rains in some areas, extreme heat remains a concern. The weather bureau warned that at least 14 areas are forecast to experience “danger level” heat index values on Sunday, which may pose health risks such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
Areas expected to record a heat index of 42°C include NAIA in Pasay City, Cubi Point in Subic Bay, Olongapo City, Camiling in Tarlac, Tayabas City and Infanta in Quezon, Cuyo in Palawan, Pili in Camarines Sur, Iloilo City, and Dumangas in Iloilo.
Even higher heat index levels of 43°C are forecast in Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, Dagupan City in Pangasinan, Bacnotan in La Union, Aparri in Cagayan, and Tuguegarao City in Cagayan.
Authorities advise the public to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses as high temperatures persist across parts of the country.
