The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Wednesday confirmed the death of three of its personnel following the collapse of the San Remegio Sports Complex in San Remegio, Cebu, during the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck the province on the evening of September 30, 2025.

The fatalities were identified as Seaman Second Class Lawrence Palomo PCG, Apprentice Seaman (ASN) Jujay Mahusay PCG, and ASN Ert Cart Dacunes PCG.

The PCG reported that three coast guards lost their lives when the sports gymnasium in San Remigio, Cebu, collapsed during the earthquake while a basketball game was underway.

All three personnel were immediately brought to Bogo General Hospital for emergency treatment, but were later pronounced dead by attending physicians.

PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan expressed deep sorrow over the incident and paid tribute to the dedication of the fallen guardians.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the families of our fallen personnel. Their dedication to the service and camaraderie with our fellow uniformed men and women will always be remembered. The PCG stands in full solidarity with their loved ones and will ensure that they receive the utmost support,” Admiral Gavan said.
