Alex Eala’s run at the Singapore Open ended in the round of 16 Thursday night after the third-seeded Filipino fell to world No. 180 Tatiana Prozorova, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Eala, currently ranked No. 18 in the world, took the opening set after a tight battle but could not close out the match as Prozorova fought back to force a deciding set.

The Russian then secured the biggest win of her career by breaking Eala for a 5-3 lead in the third set before serving out the match.

The contest lasted more than three hours, with both players trading breaks in a grueling final set. Prozorova sealed the victory with a forehand winner on match point.

“Disappointed. I think I'll just take the time to see what could have been improved and take the time to learn,” Eala said during the post-match press conference.

“Of course now process the loss and all sights set on Nagoya (Asian Games 2026),” she added.

Eala will now shift her focus to the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, where the tennis competition is scheduled to open Sunday. She is among the Philippines’ medal hopefuls in the event.

Prozorova praised Eala after their lengthy battle.

“Amazing battle, amazing match against Alexandra. I knew that she’s a very good fighter,” Prozorova said.

The loss ends Eala’s Singapore Open campaign as she turns her attention to the Asian Games, where she is expected to contend for the women’s singles gold medal.
