Alexandra Eala and Zeynep Sonmez advanced to the Round of 16 of the Madrid Open women’s doubles after a commanding straight-sets win on Thursday in Spain.

The Filipino-Turkish tandem defeated Chan Hao-Ching and Fanny Stollar, 6-2, 6-2, in their Round of 32 matchup.

Eala and Sonmez recovered from an early wobble, dropping the first two games of the opening set before reeling off six straight to seize control. They carried that momentum into the second set, racing to a 4-0 lead and never allowing their opponents back into contention.

The pair closed out the match comfortably to secure their spot in the next round, where they await their Round of 16 opponents.

Both players also found success in singles play earlier in the tournament. Eala notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the Round of 128, while Sonmez advanced to the Round of 64 after defeating Carlota Martinez Cirez, 7-5, 6-2.
