Alex Eala and Turkish partner Zeynep Sonmez saw their Wuhan Open doubles campaign end Tuesday after falling to Ukrainian duo Dayana Yastremska and Anhelina Kalinina in straight sets.

The Filipina-Turkish pair lost 6-2, 6-3 in their round-of-32 encounter, struggling to contain the Ukrainians throughout the match.

Yastremska and Kalinina seized control early in the opening set, winning the first four games to establish a commanding lead. Eala and Sonmez managed to claim two games, but their opponents maintained the advantage to take the set.

The second set offered little relief for the tandem. Although Eala and Sonmez opened with a game win and later mounted a brief fightback after falling behind 5-1, the Ukrainian duo held firm to wrap up the match.

The doubles defeat followed Eala’s singles campaign, which ended Monday with a three-set loss to China’s Shi Han, the world No. 217. Eala dropped the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the round of 64.

The Wuhan tournament was Eala’s first tour appearance since she skipped the China Open to compete for the Philippines at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan.
