The WTA 500 Mubadala DC Open final between Filipino rising star Alex Eala and world No. 3 Jessica Pegula was suspended and postponed due to inclement weather on Monday, August 3, organizers said.

The championship match was halted during the second set after persistent rain in Washington, with Pegula having taken the opening set, 6-4, and Eala leading 2-1 in the second before play was stopped.

Tournament officials later called off play for the day, with the match set to resume at 12 p.m. on August 3, which will be 12 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4 (Manila time).

The weather disruption came after a lengthy delay as officials attempted to resume action, but worsening conditions forced the postponement of the title showdown.

The final marks a milestone for Eala, who is competing in her first-ever WTA 500 championship match. The 21-year-old Filipina reached the final following an impressive run that included a straight-sets victory over Naomi Osaka in the semifinals.

Pegula, the tournament’s top seed, is seeking another title this season as she aims to capitalize on her strong form on the WTA Tour.

Play is expected to continue once conditions improve, with both players returning to complete the highly anticipated final.
