Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala continued her steady climb in the professional ranks, reaching a new career-high in the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings released Monday, July 13.

Eala jumped four spots from World No. 32 to No. 28 with 1,666 points, surpassing her previous best ranking of No. 29 set in March.

The 21-year-old’s rise was largely fueled by her historic run at the Wimbledon Championships, where she became the first Filipino to reach the Round of 16 of the Grand Slam event.

During the tournament, Eala delivered standout performances, including a straight-sets victory over defending champion Iga Swiatek, 7-6(9), 6-2, in the Round of 32.

Her campaign ended in the Round of 16 after a three-set loss to Jasmine Paolini, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

The latest milestone underscores Eala’s growing presence on the global stage and marks another breakthrough for Philippine tennis.
