Alex Eala bounced back to winning form with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 victory over France’s Diane Parry on Monday night, Oct. 19, to advance to the round of 16 at the Ningbo Open in China.

The world No. 20 Filipina defeated the world No. 34 Parry in their first-ever meeting, securing her first victory in the Women’s Tennis Association’s Asian swing after dropping her first two matches.

Eala recovered from an early setback in the opening set, breaking Parry’s serve to take a 3-2 lead. Although the Frenchwoman broke back to level the score at 3-3, Eala responded by breaking Parry again to regain the advantage.

The Filipina then held serve before breaking Parry once more to close out the first set, 6-3.

Eala carried her momentum into the second set, winning the opening game before breaking Parry’s serve in each of the next three games to build a commanding 4-0 lead.

Parry managed to get on the scoreboard at 4-1, but Eala remained in control and secured another break to move within a game of victory.

Serving for the match, Eala completed the 6-1 second-set rout to seal her place in the tournament’s round of 16.

The win gives Eala a much-needed boost as she continues her campaign on the Asian swing of the WTA Tour.
