Alex Eala was eliminated from the Queen's Club (HSBC) Championships after falling to American world No. 19 Iva Jovic, 6-2, 6-2, in the round of 16 on Wednesday, June 10 (PH time)
It marked the second defeat for Eala against Jovic in less than a month, underscoring the American’s continued edge in their growing rivalry.
Jovic controlled the match from the outset on the grass courts in London, breaking Eala early in both sets and maintaining pressure with strong serving and consistent baseline hitting.
Eala struggled to find rhythm and was unable to generate sustained momentum in either set.
The defeat ends Eala’s run in the WTA 500 event, where she was aiming to build form ahead of the grass-court swing’s biggest stages.
Despite the early exit, the 19-year-old Filipina will have only a brief recovery window before returning to competition. She is set to enter the Berlin Tennis Open as a qualifier, with the tournament scheduled from June 15 to 21 in Germany.
The back-to-back events are part of Eala’s build-up to the Wimbledon Championships later this month, where she is expected to continue her campaign on grass.
