Former president Rodrigo Duterte’s legal team has received the medical examination reports prepared by the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) panel of experts, though the findings will remain confidential for now.

“The Defense has been provided with the reports of the Court-appointed panel of experts,” said Nicholas Kaufman, head of Duterte’s legal team.

“The contents of these reports are confidential and the parties have been invited to make any observations on them by 12 December 2025.”

The medical evaluation was ordered following the defense’s request for Duterte’s interim release on humanitarian grounds.

Earlier, the ICC Appeals Chamber unanimously rejected that appeal, ruling that the defense had not sufficiently demonstrated urgent medical grounds.

Kaufman, however, said the team is prepared to reintroduce the request for interim release if the panel’s findings indicate that Duterte is medically unfit to stand trial.

Duterte currently faces charges of crimes against humanity of murder over the alleged deaths of thousands of mostly poor Filipinos during his administration’s deadly anti-drug campaign.
