Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has formally waived his right to attend his fifth status conference before the International Criminal Court (ICC), scheduled for Nov. 2, 2026.

In a 3-page filing, Duterte’s defense team said it notified the Trial Chamber on Oct. 28 of his decision to waive his right to attend the hearing.

The following day, the Trial Chamber granted the request and directed the defense to submit the waiver signed by Duterte.

In compliance with the order, his lawyers submitted the signed waiver as Annex A to the filing.

The document also states that Duterte instructed his lawyers to address the procedural matters listed on the status conference agenda, as well as any other issues that may arise during the hearing.
