Dueñas, Iloilo Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan was accidentally shot on Tuesday morning, December 30, while inside her residence in Barangay Tabuc Suba, La Paz, Iloilo City, according to police reports.
Authorities said Lamasan sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen after her personal 9mm firearm accidentally discharged while she was packing her belongings for a return trip to Dueñas. She was immediately rushed to St. Paul’s Hospital, where she underwent surgery and is now reported to be in stable condition.
Police said the incident happened around 7 a.m. at the dining area of her home in Puerto Real de Iloilo Subdivision. She was reportedly with her live-in partner, Lord Byron Torrecarion of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), at the time of the incident.
The Iloilo City Police Office said the shooting appears accidental, but an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances, including whether the vice mayor had a valid permit to carry a firearm outside her residence.
Authorities continue to gather information as part of the follow-up investigation.
