The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XII has urged the public to stop sharing graphic photos, videos, and personal information related to the shooting incident at Banga National High School in South Cotabato on Friday, September 18.
In a public advisory, DSWD-12 called on netizens, social media influencers, vloggers, and content creators to refrain from posting or circulating images and names of the victims, as well as those of the minor involved in the incident.
The agency said continued dissemination of such sensitive materials online could worsen the trauma experienced by grieving families and affected learners.
Social workers are providing psychological first aid and psychosocial interventions to families and learners affected by the incident.
Meanwhile, the public was reminded that unauthorized disclosure of information involving children and sharing of sensitive personal data may violate existing laws protecting their rights, privacy, and welfare.
The advisory cited Republic Acts 7610, 9344, 10173, and 10175, which cover child protection, juvenile justice, data privacy, and cybercrime.
Cyber authorities and law enforcement partners are also monitoring social media platforms. Accounts found distributing or archiving graphic materials may be reported for legal action.
The public was urged to refrain from sharing or commenting on posts containing sensitive materials and to report them immediately.
