The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will roll out multiple rounds of cash assistance for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers as part of the government’s continuing response to the impact of rising fuel costs, Secretary Rex Gatchalian said on March 27.

Speaking at the Kapihan ng Samahang Plaridel, Gatchalian stressed that the financial aid program will not be limited to a one-time distribution, following the directive of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr.

“Hindi naman ito isang beses lang gagawin. This is the first round, magkakaroon ng mga succeeding rounds,” he said, emphasizing sustained government support for affected transport workers.

Gatchalian noted that assistance will continue as long as PUV drivers feel the effects of economic pressures. “For every time na may epekto sa kanila, we will keep on assisting them. This is not going to be limited to one round—it’s going to be multiple rounds,” he added.

The DSWD chief also announced a special payout schedule after Holy Week to cover beneficiaries who were not included in the initial rollout.

“Maglulunsad tayo ng special payout schedule… para sa mga hindi naisama sa first round,” he said, adding that the department will immediately proceed with the second round of aid afterward.

He further shared that he has been conducting field visits to monitor on-the-ground issues and ensure the efficient delivery of assistance to transport workers nationwide.
