The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has been placed under “Red Alert” status as the government prepares for the possible impact of Tropical Storm Caloy in several parts of the country.
The agency said it remains on standby to provide additional assistance to local government units that may be affected by the storm, while continuing its ongoing services for drivers nationwide, communities affected by previous typhoons, and residents impacted by the unrest of Mayon Volcano.
According to the DSWD, millions of family food packs (FFPs) and hundreds of thousands of non-food items (NFIs) have already been pre-positioned in its warehouses across the country to ensure a faster disaster response.
As of 6 p.m. on May 9, 2026, the agency reported that it has prepared 4,704,560 family food packs and 202,855 non-food items ready for immediate distribution to affected residents.
The DSWD said the move is in line with the directive of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to prioritize the welfare and safety of Filipinos, especially during times of calamity.
