The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) extended its “deepest sympathies” for the loved ones of those killed as well as others affected in the shooting incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City on Monday, June 22.
“This tragic event has caused not only the loss of lives but also profound emotional pain for the families left behind, survivors, and witnesses. We are especially concerned about the impact on children, as every child deserves to grow up in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment where their rights and welfare are protected,” the department wrote in a statement.
DSWD social workers, working closely with the local government of Tacloban City and other relevant agencies, have provided psychosocial support and psychological first aid to affected individuals to aid them in coping with trauma, grief, and distress as a result of the incident.
The suspects were seized by authorities on Monday. Both are minors, classified as children in conflict with the law (CICLs): alias “Rod,” 15, and alias “Nash,” 14, both from the said school.
In a press briefing on the same day, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed ten casualties as a result of the shooting incident. Three were killed, and seven others wounded, according to reports.
