The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has located and come to the aid of the 11-year-old elementary graduate who wrote to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., appealing for protection, it announced on Wednesday.
The social welfare agency said they will provide psycho-emotional counseling for Maureen Delos Santos and her brothers and sisters in the shelter housing her, and grant financial aid to their families.
“Tutulungan natin siya at ang kanyang mga kasama sa shelter sa pamamagitan ng psycho-emotional counselling mula sa ating mga social workers,” DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said.
“Magkakaloob din ng tulong pinansyal para sa kanilang mga pamilya upang maayos ang kanilang kabuhayan,” he went on, adding that Delos Santos’ friend, a victim of sexual assault, will be aided by social workers as well.
Delos Santos wrote to the President, saying children like her must be excluded from political disputes and kept from harm.
“I just want to go to school without being raped. So, can you please help us?” she wrote.
President Marcos said he was almost brought to tears and angered by her circumstances and vowed to send policemen and to apprehend those who have hurt her or her sisters.
