The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will begin distributing cash relief assistance to tricycle drivers in provinces outside Metro Manila starting Wednesday, April 8, in response to the impact of rising fuel prices.

According to the DSWD, more than 328,000 tricycle drivers nationwide are expected to benefit from the program.

Each qualified driver will receive P5,000 in financial aid to help offset income losses brought about by recent fuel price hikes linked to global tensions, including the US-Iran conflict.

The agency said payouts will be conducted through its field offices across the country. At least 64 payout sites will be set up in Balance Luzon, while 47 sites will operate in the Visayas and 35 in Mindanao.

The DSWD emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensure that no sector is left behind amid the current economic challenges. The cash assistance aims to provide immediate relief and direct support to tricycle drivers, enabling them to sustain their daily needs and continue their livelihood.

Malacañang earlier announced that the distribution of fuel subsidies in provinces to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers would commence after the Holy Week.

In the third week of March, the government began the distribution of financial assistance to tricycle drivers in Metro Manila.

Meanwhile, eligible Metro Manila beneficiaries who have yet to receive aid are advised to await further announcements, as the DSWD will conduct a special payout next week for remaining and supplemental PUV drivers.
