Manila City Mayor Francisco 'Isko' Moreno Domagoso announced on Tuesday that a driver-suspect involved in the fatal shooting of retired police officer George Capistrano has surrendered, while authorities continue their manhunt for the alleged gunman.
The suspect, identified as Liegem Bulalacao Young, also known as “Biboy,” voluntarily turned himself in with the help of a barangay official after being urged by authorities. Speaking during a Facebook Live broadcast of “Talk to the People,” Mayor Domagoso said the surrender represents a breakthrough in the investigation following intelligence gathering and sustained police operations.
“Ngayon, as you can see, meron na po tayong development. Sumuko na po ‘yung isa sa mga suspect, at nagbibigay na siya ng mahalagang impormasyon para matukoy ang iba pang sangkot sa krimen,” the mayor said.
He added that authorities are determined to locate the remaining members of the group to fully resolve the case.
The driver admitted his role in the robbery-holdup but denied involvement in the shooting, pointing to his cohort, identified as Albert Magdaraog, as the gunman who killed Capistrano.
“Driver lang naman po ako. Wala naman po akong alam na papatayin niya eh. Pagbaba niya, binaril niya agad, siya lang po ‘yung may dala,” Young said.
Mayor Domagoso vowed that operations to apprehend Magdaraog and other suspects will continue nationwide, describing the group as part of a roaming robbery-holdup syndicate active across Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
Capistrano, 56, was shot dead at around midnight on March 15 along Salonga Street corner Buendia Street in Barangay 134, Balut, Tondo. He was rushed to Tondo Medical Center but was declared dead at approximately 12:35 a.m.
Authorities continue to track down the remaining suspects to deliver justice for Capistrano and other victims of the syndicate.
