The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced on Monday that drinking alcohol in streets and public places is now prohibited nationwide, and curfew hours for minors will be strictly enforced.

“Meron tayong Anti-Public Intoxication Act. Bawal na ang mag-inom sa kalye, bawal na ang maglatag ng mga silya at mga lamesa sa mga kalye at mag-inuman,” DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said during a press briefing.

Remulla emphasized that public drinking is a major source of street fights and sexual harassment.

“Sinasabihan ko ang lahat, pasensyahan tayo. Pag kayo mag-inuman sa kalye huhulihin namin kayo,” he added.

He clarified that drinking is allowed inside private homes, but public spaces are off-limits.

“Walang problema, kapag nasa loob kayo ng mga poder niyo, nasa loob ng mga bahay. Pero sa labas, sa kalye, public spaces bawal na ang inuman,“ he said.

The DILG chief also advised minors to return to their homes by 10 p.m.

Violators may be apprehended under enhanced curfew ordinances, which apply to those under 18 years old who are not studying or employed.

“Mayroon na tayong enhance curfew ordinances para sa mga 18 years old below kapag hindi kayo nag-aaral o nagtatrabaho. Full proof of employment, proof of education na nag-aaral kayo sa oras na iyon pauwi kayo bawal na kayo sa kalye after 10:00 pm, umuwi na kayo sa mga bahay niyo,” Remulla said.

“Yung mga rugby boys diyan, 'yung mga geng-geng dyan, yung mga g*go sa kalye diyan, magtago na kayo. Umuwi na kayo pag 10 o'clock. Huhulihin namin kayo," he added.
