The Philippine women's national basketball team has adopted a new identity, with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announcing that the squad will now be known as ‘Hiraya’.
The name was chosen in response to the International Basketball Federation's (FIBA) challenge for national women's teams to establish their own identities.
According to the SBP, Hiraya symbolizes dreams and aspirations, reflecting the team's hopes and ambitions as it continues to represent the Philippines in international basketball competitions.
Along with its new name, Hiraya will also have its own emblem featuring two infinity symbols representing limitless potential.
The emblem's butterfly-like appearance symbolizes transformation and the pursuit of one's highest form, while its curves and colors, inspired by the Philippine flag, reflect Filipino style and national identity.
The new branding aims to give the Philippine women's national team a distinct identity that embodies its aspirations and Filipino heritage.
