The drainage inlet widening project along Mother Ignacia Avenue in Quezon City is expected to be completed within two weeks, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
According to the DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR), the project forms part of its broader efforts to increase the capacity of drainage infrastructure in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, together with officials from the Quezon City 2nd District Engineering Office, inspected the project site to check its progress and ensure that the ongoing works are being properly implemented.
“Inaasahang matatapos ang kasalukuyang pagpapalawak sa loob ng dalawang linggo,” the DPWH said.
The agency said its broader plan also includes the installation of three additional high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes that will serve as detention basins to further strengthen the area's flood protection infrastructure.
The installation of the additional pipes is scheduled to begin in January 2027.
The DPWH said it remains focused on ensuring the safety and convenience of motorists and commuters while improving flood-control infrastructure, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s infrastructure priorities.
“Nananatiling nakatutok ang ahensya sa pagtiyak ng kaligtasan at kaginhawaan ng mga motorista at komyuter sa kanilang araw-araw na biyahe,“ it said.
