The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will send a demand letter to Newbig Four J Construction Inc. ordering the immediate repair of the collapsed river dike project along the Mag-Asawang River in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the move will not affect the possible filing of cases against the contractor over the alleged substandard construction of the project.

Dizon added that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reiterated that substandard infrastructure projects will not be tolerated anywhere in the country and stressed that every peso of taxpayers’ money must result in durable and beneficial government projects.

The DPWH has formed a team of experts to conduct a thorough assessment of the river dike and implement long-term solutions to prevent recurring flooding in the towns of Naujan and Victoria.

The agency assured the public that the rehabilitation plan is being fast-tracked and that individuals found responsible for any irregularities will be held accountable at the soonest possible time.
