The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will begin a large-scale rehabilitation of the Maharlika Highway in 2026, covering key sections across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon announced.
The project follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure safer, smoother, and faster travel on major roads nationwide. Dizon said millions of motorists use Maharlika Highway daily and have long endured poor road conditions from northern Luzon to Mindanao.
Priority repairs will include major road networks such as MacArthur Highway, Quirino Highway, and Andaya Highway, particularly in heavily affected areas in Samar, Leyte, and parts of Mindanao.
The DPWH will also carry out repairs on major roads and bridges nationwide, including EDSA and C-5, as well as key bridges such as the Buot-Taup Bridge in Cebu, Oyungan Bridge in Iloilo, Tubod-Nabuna Bridge in Misamis Occidental, and a damaged hanging bridge in Nueva Vizcaya.
