The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to complete within five to six months the ongoing 4.55-kilometer segment and previously collapsed portions of the Metro Cebu Expressway (MCE) in Naga City, Cebu, ending nearly eight years of delay, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said.

Dizon said the move follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to fast-track long-stalled government infrastructure projects so the public can finally benefit from them, stressing the urgency of finishing the expressway before the onset of the rainy season.

During an inspection of the site, Dizon noted that the MCE segment, which began construction in 2018, remained unfinished due to slow implementation despite its relatively short length. He described the project as a clear example of recurring delays that the administration aims to address decisively.

To meet the revised timeline, the DPWH has ordered the deployment of additional equipment and personnel to accelerate construction and repair works, including the rehabilitation of collapsed sections of the roadway.

Dizon added that the DPWH is also ready to assist the Cebu Provincial Government in speeding up the completion of other, larger portions of the Metro Cebu Expressway, which is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across Metro Cebu once fully operational.
