The Benguet First District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cordillera has ordered the removal of a white casket erected by officials of Barangay Ambuklao, Sitio Acme, in Bokod.

According to a report by RH 41 Romy Gonzales on Monday night, the casket was meant to serve as a road hazard signage for motorists passing by the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya road.

Engr. Teofilo Ramirez Jr. of the Engineering Office declared the casket inappropriate as a road signage. In response, Ambuklao Barangay Captain Reynaldo Badibal Tello said officials will only remove the casket when the DPWH replaces them with the promised road signages.

The Barangay head explained they added the casket as an ominous warning to all motorists to proceed with caution along the Benguet-Vizcaya road, as the area it was placed by has been identified as an accident-prone segment of the road.

The morbid hazard marker has garnered mixed reactions, with some agreeing with the message it seeks to convey, and others opposed to it.
