DPWH: Proposed 2026 budget excludes new locally-funded flood control projects
by Jim Fernandez02 January 2026
Amid the notorious flood control scandal, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) clarified on Friday that its proposed 2026 budget does not include funding for new locally-funded flood control projects.
“Instead, the proposed ₱2.49 billion allocation is dedicated to the Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) of existing flood-control related projects and programs including the government’s Oplan Kontra Baha program,” the agency said in a statement.
These funds will go to essential declogging, desilting, dredging, repair, and clearing operations to ensure that waterways and drainage systems nationwide remain functional.
The ₱6.793-trillion national budget is presently being reviewed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
