Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered a thorough investigation into a flood control project in Barangay Candating, Arayat, Pampanga, following reports of a defective design that led to the collapse of foundations and posed risks to nearby homes.

Dizon said the project has long been problematic after structural failures were first observed, prompting the contractor to carry out repairs. However, he noted that despite repeated attempts, the issues have yet to be properly resolved.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Chief stressed that it is time to hold those responsible accountable, including the contractor and certain DPWH officials involved in the project. He added that reports pointing to possible links between the project and some lawmakers should also be examined as part of the probe.

Dizon further said initial findings indicate serious flaws in the project’s design, which may explain the recurring damage. He emphasized that residents in the affected area remain the most severely impacted, with their homes facing potential danger due to the ongoing structural issues.
